Summary

Walter Isaacson’s “enthralling” (The New Yorker) worldwide bestselling biography of Apple cofounder Steve Jobs。

Based on more than forty interviews with Steve Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than 100 family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing。 Isaacson’s portrait touched millions of readers。

At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination。 He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology。 He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering。

Although Jobs cooperated with the author, he asked for no control over what was written。 He put nothing off-limits。 He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly。 He himself spoke candidly about the people he worked with and competed against。

His friends, foes, and colleagues offer an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted。

His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values。

Steve Jobs is the inspiration for the movie of the same name starring Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, and Jeff Daniels, directed by Danny Boyle with a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin。

A fascinating read of a complex man。 While he tries to be fair and balanced, if Isaacson may be criticized it may be for attempting to occasionally couch truly wretched behavior from Jobs, but in the end, Isaacson has succeeded again in writing a magnificent biography of a truly fascinating and involved subject。 Warning: Jobs' language is unfiltered and often profane。 A fascinating read of a complex man。 While he tries to be fair and balanced, if Isaacson may be criticized it may be for attempting to occasionally couch truly wretched behavior from Jobs, but in the end, Isaacson has succeeded again in writing a magnificent biography of a truly fascinating and involved subject。 Warning: Jobs' language is unfiltered and often profane。 。。。more

I just finished this book in a period of pandemic where my only perspective is myself which made me lose track of the importance of life。 After reading this biography I can see how bountiful life can be and how passion can drive creativity beyond your expectations。 There are good and bad lessons to be learnt for personal and professional life。 I really recommend this book for all those who seek inspiration and motivation。

Though a bit lengthy but it provides every glimpse of Steve's personality whether it is positive or negative 。Got to know how a radical man with his will being imposed courtesy of his superior personality got things done in a way he wants them 。 Though a bit lengthy but it provides every glimpse of Steve's personality whether it is positive or negative 。Got to know how a radical man with his will being imposed courtesy of his superior personality got things done in a way he wants them 。 。。。more

The book paints a detailed, well researched and complex picture of the man with eclectic and almost contradictory passions- a hippie fruitarian/vegan yet ruthless business billionaire obsessed with control- a product perfectionist yet minimalist- an artist yet technologist but not a geek or software expert- a great salesmen that tells customers what they want (rather than listening to them)。 Steve was clearly a difficult character, and the book doesn't hesitate to highlight his ability to lie and manipulate aka the "Reality distortion field"。 When diagnosed with cancer, Steve refused treatment for 9 months, instead trying quack medicines, the ultimate anti-Science statement- by the time he received treatment the cancer had spread- Steve could deceive himself。 His death at 56 was sad and untimely, but his legacy is secure and this book is a fitting tribute。 。。。more

Olipas tunteikas lukukokemus。 Aloitin kirjan näemmä vuonna 2013。 Vaikka olin tuolloin juuri Stanfordin ME310-kurssilta palanneena mitä suurimmissa teknologia-, taide-, käytettävyys- ja muotoilupärinöissä, en päässyt (ehkä hieman puuduttavaa) alkua pidemmälle。 Nyt vihdoin tartuin uudelleen hyllyllä odottaneeseen niteeseen, kun törmäsin toistuvasti Jobsiin buddhalaisuutta sivuavissa kirjoissa。 Rakkaus täydellisyyttä kohtaan, karmiva ihmisjohtamistyyli ja kiehtovat teknologishistorialliset tapahtum Olipas tunteikas lukukokemus。 Aloitin kirjan näemmä vuonna 2013。 Vaikka olin tuolloin juuri Stanfordin ME310-kurssilta palanneena mitä suurimmissa teknologia-, taide-, käytettävyys- ja muotoilupärinöissä, en päässyt (ehkä hieman puuduttavaa) alkua pidemmälle。 Nyt vihdoin tartuin uudelleen hyllyllä odottaneeseen niteeseen, kun törmäsin toistuvasti Jobsiin buddhalaisuutta sivuavissa kirjoissa。 Rakkaus täydellisyyttä kohtaan, karmiva ihmisjohtamistyyli ja kiehtovat teknologishistorialliset tapahtumat saivat minut loppujen lopuksi ahmimaan opuksen pitkälle öihin venyneissä jättipaloissa。 Oman painoksen takakannessa lotusasennossa istuvan Jobsin sylissä lepäävän Macintoshin ruudun kohtaan on painettu mtv3。fi:n huikea kirja-arvio "Erittäin kiehtova tarina amerikkalaisen unelman toteutumisesta ja samalla opas poikkeuksellisesta johtamistyylistä"。 Mielestäni teksti ei voisi olla paskempi。 。。。more

A really well written book。 One of my personal favorites。 What sets this book apart from the others like it is that it really makes you feel like Steve Jobs。 Every crushing defeat and every home run are fully felt and earned, and by the end you walk away having learned tons from one of the most fascinating and brilliant figures in recent history。

First I felt this book was a history of Apple and other businesses and I guess that’s relevant but totally dull。I looked up on the internet that there are 1 billion trillion stars in the KNOWN universe。 Then according to prb。org by 2050 121 billion people will have lived on this earth。 What I walked away with from this book was 1 person - 1 star and the life paved by that journey。 I get that when I get to know anyone。 I did not feel as connected as I might but i guess that’s difficult in a book。 First I felt this book was a history of Apple and other businesses and I guess that’s relevant but totally dull。I looked up on the internet that there are 1 billion trillion stars in the KNOWN universe。 Then according to prb。org by 2050 121 billion people will have lived on this earth。 What I walked away with from this book was 1 person - 1 star and the life paved by that journey。 I get that when I get to know anyone。 I did not feel as connected as I might but i guess that’s difficult in a book。 I bypassed what others said and shared because I wasn’t reading this to know what they thought。 I enjoyed learning who Steve Jobs seemingly aspired to be when his words were provided。 I did admire his contemplative sensitivity, his no nonsense ethos and that he was successful in living his life his way。 I wish I could see him now because I do believe in ‘and one more thing’ 。。。more
